Vintage

The 2012 season continued a run of cooler vintages at Giaconda. During the wine's development, Rick Kinzbrunner described the 2012 Pinot Noir as potentially the best Pinot Noir produced at Giaconda to that point, noting its complexity and depth in a true Burgundian style.

Vineyard

The wine is a 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir fruit from the Yarra Valley and Giaconda's Estate Vineyard.

Winemaking

The wine was tank fermented before being transferred to French oak, approximately 25% new. It was matured in oak for 16 months, a slightly shorter period intended to maintain freshness and vibrancy.

“Old fashioned magenta colour; Satsuma plums, twigs, cold tea and exotic spice notes of cinnamon and mandarin rind. Brooding and mysterious with a captivating aroma. It has elements reminiscent of '89 and '92 with additional layers of complexity. The initial palate impact provides ripe plum notes with a striking corset of fine savoury tannin that focuses and defines the wine. Powerful yet elegant, ripe but not sweet, it will require time for the wine to unravel its hidden magic.
