The colour is grainy deep bright and brilliant, powerful purposeful purple velvet, as if holding a sword. Classic noble Eden Valley shiraz aromatics that so rightly define this wine-growing region as royal. Pink peppercorns just crushed, picked and bruised plums, freshly tilled earth; bay leaves, thyme, sage and fennel fronds; nutmeg, mace and mushrooms at dawn; blackberry confit and bare zephyrs of dark chocolate liqueur. The subtle bouquet of oak’s conservative tailoring reveals, in a mere glimpse, the winemaker’s nerveless hand. This is a coiled and compact red wine textured by super-fine and silky tannins - tannins as if in miniature. These coat the palate, but do so in neat check-step with the slightly dangerous and enticing fruits: perfect plums, the season’s first blackberries, blueberries chilled. Alongside come hints of cedar and smoked meats. A long finish, and as long as the fruit is concentrated and unalloyed..
