Overview
A distinguished single-vineyard Grenache sourced from unirrigated bush vines planted in 1962 at the historic Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard. Fermented and matured entirely in cocciopesto amphorae, this limited release combines detailed perfume and savoury fruit with elegant, persistent natural tannins.
Vineyard
The fruit comes from Block 301, the oldest Grenache block at Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard. The unirrigated bush vines were planted in 1962 on brown clay loam with shattered siltstone, producing concentrated fruit with distinctive savoury complexity and structure.
Winemaking
The fruit was hand-picked on 19 March and selectively berry sorted. It was completely destemmed, crushed and transferred into 1,800-litre cocciopesto stone amphorae for wild fermentation. Gentle maceration consisted only of wetting the cap.
The wine remained on skins in amphora for approximately four months, with no pressings included. It was matured in amphora for a total of 11 months.
Tasting Profile
Producer Tasting Note
From a site whose slopes are steeped in rich history, we source this Grenache from unirrigated bush vines planted in 1962. Its distinctive fruit is nurtured with a gentle wild fermentation and matured in grand ‘cocciopesto’ egg shaped amphorae. Capturing a contrasting expression of detailed perfume and a loose knit weave of tannins.

Tasted August 2025
A lovely balance of savory fruit and soil, lifted by perfume and freshness. Aromas of citrus peel, blood oranges, black cherries, pomegranate, sea spray and charcuterie, alongside iron, potpourri and dried raspberries. The palate is textural, rounded and finely tuned, with firmly framed yet polished tannins and a saline edge… Drink or hold.

Deep red and black cherry, dark rose, some faint blue fruit/floral cues, Baharat, a very fine anise note, along with amaro herbs and warm earth, all so finely wrought. Tannins are so elegant yet insistent, and the accord with acidity make this dangerously drinkable now… the future is assured.

It’s quite hearty and sweet fruited… neatly driven back by a swish of crackling, blood orange acidity, pleasing aniseed bitterness and a feathery tug of dusty tannin… A heady perfume signs a bit of riper, medicinal cherry fruit in too.
