A remarkably scarce red Burgundy from one of the Côte de Beaune’s most sought-after producers, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Les Riottes 2024 is a Pinot Noir from the tiny Les Riottes Premier Cru vineyard in Monthelie.

Covering only around 0.75 hectares, Les Riottes is one of the smaller Premier Cru sites of Monthelie, with only limited quantities produced. While Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is celebrated above all for its Chardonnay, this small-production Pinot Noir offers a distinctive expression of the domaine’s precise, terroir-focused approach.

Vineyard & Terroir

Les Riottes is a Monthelie Premier Cru vineyard covering approximately 0.75 hectares (1.8 acres). It lies just north-west of the village of Monthelie in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune.

The vineyard occupies gentle south and south-east-facing slopes in the northern part of the principal group of Premier Cru vineyards in the commune. Its exceptionally small surface area makes wines from Les Riottes particularly scarce.

Tasting Notes

Black cherry and blackcurrant fruit are joined by plum, iron and smoky oak spice, with a silky, savoury palate and earthy complexity.

Producer

Founded in 2005 by Pierre-Yves Colin and Catherine Morey, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is based in Chassagne-Montrachet and is particularly renowned for Chardonnay. Drawing on deep family roots in Burgundy, the domaine has important holdings across the Côte de Beaune, with a particular concentration of vineyards in Saint-Aubin.

Alongside its celebrated white wines, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey produces a small quantity of Pinot Noir. In the cellar, the domaine favours extended lees contact and barrel ageing without bâtonnage. The wines are bottled without filtration and often without fining, with an approach focused on purity and individual terroir expression.
