Overview

A significant release from Greenock Creek, this 2024 Grenache Blanc marks the producer’s first white wine in decades. Sourced from a single vineyard on the edge of Marananga in the Barossa Valley, it combines bright citrus-driven freshness with extended skin contact and lees maturation for a distinctly textural, savoury expression.

Vineyard

The Grenache Blanc comes from a single-site, organically farmed vineyard in Marananga, planted in a hillside gully on a south-east-facing slope. The vines are rooted in red and brown clay soils intertwined with veins of pink quartz. Fruit was harvested in the early morning to preserve freshness and aromatic purity.

Winemaking

Fermentation took place in stainless steel, with the skins held in the press for several hours to build additional texture, structure and mouthfeel. The wine was then matured on full fermentation lees, divided equally between clay amphora and stainless steel, adding complexity, weight and subtle savoury character.

“An impressive new wine in the Greenock Creek line-up; a single-vineyard grenache blanc from the edge of Marananga, made with extended skin contact in the press and fermented/matured in equal parts clay amphora and stainless steel. Pale straw with bright grapefruit, pear and citrus characters with hints of meadow flowers, crème fraîche, a light dusting of ginger spice, crushed stone and lime zest. That pithy textural aspect is dialled in beautifully here; the wine leans dry and savoury on the back end with a minerally cadence. Super stuff!”
