Overview

Genevrières is one of Meursault's celebrated Premier Cru vineyards, situated south-west of the village in the southern part of the appellation. Joseph Drouhin's 2022 Chardonnay combines the generosity and texture associated with Meursault with citrus freshness, fine spice and a long, complex finish.

Vineyard

Meursault Genevrières lies a few kilometres south of Beaune in the Côte de Beaune. The vineyard's name derives from genevrier, or juniper, a shrub that thrives in the area's limestone soils. The site is characterised by limestone and clay.

Vintage

Joseph Drouhin describes 2022 as a vintage of good maturity and particularly aromatic white wines. Citrus and ripe fruit are joined by delicate floral, spice and pastry notes, while the palate combines fleshy texture, roundness and a rich finish with excellent ageing potential.

Winemaking

The wine is produced from grapes and musts purchased from supply partners working to Joseph Drouhin's specifications. Grapes are harvested by hand in open-work crates and carefully sorted when necessary. The fruit undergoes slow pneumatic pressing, with the final press juice separated from the free-run juice. Following light settling, the juice is transferred to barrel.

Alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in oak barrels. New oak represents approximately 20% to 25%, with maturation lasting 16 to 18 months in French oak.

Producer Tasting Notes

Véronique Boss-Drouhin, Joseph Drouhin: “Meursault Premier Cru Genevrières reveals a nice pale yellow colour. The nose, concentrated and elegant, is reminiscent of almond, warm bread just out of the oven, then, fine spice and finally grilled dried fruit. The mouth, both ample and generous, develops aromas of vanilla mingling with citrus notes. Very long aftertaste.”

Critic Reviews

James Suckling:
“Wow, beautiful aromas of ripe tree fruit and baking spices lead to a medium body and attractive, broad flavors that are nicely lifted by tangy acidity for great balance. Baked apple, vanilla bean, wet stone and mineral character runs all through it. Drink now or hold.”
