Overview

A tiny-production Premier Cru from the northern end of Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Faiveley Les Fuées 2022 comes from a mere 0.1897-hectare parcel directly adjoining Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru. Planted in 1944 and 2011, this east to south-east-facing site produces just around one and a half barrels of deeply coloured, fleshy Pinot Noir.

Faiveley’s 2022 combines ripe fruit and subtle smoky, toasted nuances with a smooth entry, impressive intensity and the finesse and elegance associated with Chambolle-Musigny. With its minute production and exceptional position beside Bonnes-Mares, Les Fuées is one of the domaine’s particularly scarce Premier Cru bottlings.

Vineyard & Terroir

Les Fuées lies at the northern end of Chambolle-Musigny, immediately beyond Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru. Domaine Faiveley’s parcel extends from north to south across 0.1897 hectares, with vines planted in 1944 and 2011.

The vineyard has an east to south-east exposure and deep clay-limestone soils. According to the domaine, these deeper soils give Les Fuées a distinctive expression, with less overt minerality and a fleshier profile. The exceptionally small parcel yields only around one and a half barrels of wine.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested and sorted by hand. The proportion of destemmed fruit and whole clusters varies according to the vintage. During fermentation, the wines are punched down daily to extract colour, tannins and aromas. Vatting lasts approximately 19 days.

The free-run wine is transferred by gravity, while the marc is pressed slowly and gently to obtain a particularly pure press wine. Maturation takes place for 16 months in fine-grained, moderately toasted French oak barrels, with 40–50% new oak and 50–60% one-wine barrels, in the domaine’s naturally temperature- and humidity-regulated cellars.

Producer Tasting Notes

“Intense ruby red hue.”

NOSE
“Intense and complex aromas of ripe fruits underpinned by a touch of smoke and spice.”

PALATE
“The smooth attack gives way to a full-bodied, elegant palate.”
