Overview
An exceptionally rare Grand Cru from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Grands Échezeaux combines one of Burgundy’s most celebrated domaines with a vineyard renowned for structure, refinement and longevity. The extraordinarily limited 2021 vintage yielded just 8,899 bottles, adding significant scarcity.
Vineyard
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti holds 3.5263 hectares of Grands Échezeaux Grand Cru. The vineyard lies in Flagey-Échezeaux in the Côte de Nuits, adjoining Clos de Vougeot and immediately above Échezeaux. The domaine’s holding includes parcels within Les Grands Échezeaux and neighbouring sections of this historic Grand Cru.
Vintage & Winemaking
The challenging 2021 growing season resulted in exceptionally low yields at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Harvest began on 23 September. Following sorting, bunches were retained intact without destemming, and the wines were subsequently matured in new barrels.
Critic Reviews
98 Points — William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“The 2021 vintage has turned out brilliantly at the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, delivering wines of striking perfume and sensuality. Sadly, there just isn't very much of them to go around.”
96 Points — Charles Curtis MW
“On release, the Grands Échezeaux shares the somewhat pale hue of the Échezeaux, yet it is aromatically richer, with more sweet pomegranate fruit on the initial attack. While still noticeable, the cask ageing is well-integrated, and the wine is more substantial and longer than its neighbour on the palate.”
