Overview
The 2015 Jasper Hill Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz is a powerful, long-lived Heathcote Shiraz from an outstanding vintage, combining dark berry fruit, spice, savoury complexity and firm yet finely balanced tannins. Its pedigree is reinforced by 96 points from Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate, 95 points from James Halliday and Wine Spectator, and a place at No. 20 in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 of 2018.
At release, Jasper Hill described the wine as rich and powerful yet beautifully balanced, with mixed red berries, spice, velvety texture and supple tannins. A decade on, its substantial structure and proven ageing potential make this an especially compelling cellar release from one of Heathcote’s most recognised producers.
Tasting Notes
Jasper Hill — Time of Release
“From another great vintage, with 12 months élevage in French oak barriques, of which 20% were new. Exhibiting the typical characters of mixed red berries with a general spiciness to the velvety, viscous, well balanced and rounded palate. Powerful wine, with fine, supple tannins and a fabulous length. Great longevity again, but regardless, this will immediately appear on wine lists matched to grilled red meats without any detriment.”
95/100 — James Halliday
“Matured for 12 months in French barriques (20% new). It is medium to full-bodied, with red and black fruits competing for space alongside spices and firm, but balanced, tannins. Carries its alcohol with aplomb on the long palate.”

95/100 — Andrew Caillard MW
“Medium deep crimson. Fresh dark cherry, blackberry herb garden, aniseed aromas with espresso notes. Inky textured wine with lovely ripe dark cherry, blackberry fruits, slinky fine chalky tannins, underlying savoury nuances and bitter chinotto-like finish. Elegantly styled wine with lovely aromatic complexity and vigour.”

Vineyard & Terroir
The original block of Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz was planted in 1975, with additional vines planted in 1987. For this vintage, Georgia’s Paddock fruit was supplemented with grapes grown by friends within the Heathcote region.
Jasper Hill’s soils are derived from Cambrian-period basaltic rock estimated at 500–600 million years old. In Heathcote these unusually deep, rusty-red gravelly loams can extend to four metres, combining good drainage with moisture-retention capability. The soils occur within a narrow strip between two north-south faults, contributing to their complex mineralogy.
About Jasper Hill
Jasper Hill was established by Ron and Elva Laughton in Heathcote in 1975. The family estate is closely associated with Georgia’s Paddock and Emily’s Paddock and has established a longstanding reputation for powerful, distinctive and age-worthy Heathcote Shiraz. Georgia’s Paddock remains one of the producer’s defining wines.
