Overview

The 1992 Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Shiraz is a mature old-vintage Heathcote Shiraz from one of central Victoria's pioneering estates. Ron Laughton and Jasper Hill helped define the reputation of Heathcote, with Georgia's Paddock becoming one of the region's most recognisable and age-worthy Shiraz bottlings.

Georgia's Paddock is the larger of Jasper Hill's vineyards, planted to Shiraz on ancient Cambrian basalt soils. Known for concentration, spice, natural acidity and long-term cellaring ability, this mature 1992 release is now a rare bottle for collectors of classic Australian Shiraz.

Vintage & Winemaking

Georgia's Paddock Shiraz is produced from low-yielding estate Shiraz, with fruit in some years supplemented by grapes grown by trusted friends within the Heathcote region. The wine is shaped by Jasper Hill's deep red Cambrian soils, dry-grown vines and low-intervention approach.

The vineyard soils are derived from 500 to 600 million-year-old Cambrian basaltic rock. In Heathcote, these deep, rusty red, gravelly loams provide excellent drainage, moisture retention and mineral complexity.

Critic Scores & Reviews

95 points - Andrew Caillard MW
"Medium deep crimson. Expressive red currant mocha aromas with waxy lanolin mocha coal dust notes... Very attractive wine. Now-2025."

95 points - Jeremy Oliver
Drinking window: 2004-2012.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Vibrant magenta in youth, now expected to show mature crimson and brick-red development.

Nose: Rich dark berry fruit with developed redcurrant, mocha, lanolin, coal dust and roasted walnut complexity.

Palate: Generously proportioned, with developed redcurrant and mocha flavours, fine loose-knit graphite tannins, leafy firmness and an inky finish. A mature, complex and very attractive expression of Georgia's Paddock.

Food Pairing

Pair with grilled or roast beef, lamb shoulder, slow-braised short ribs, venison, or aged hard cheeses.

Cellaring Potential

This is a mature old-vintage bottle. Best enjoyed now, with bottle condition, provenance and storage history especially important at this age.
